Stoney Cove, 28th Nov 2006
The morning started as normal going to Stoney from Yorkshire, 6:15am and it was throwing it down most of the way down the Motorway, do I really want to be diving on a day like this as I look at the outside temperature 8.5 degrees, oh joy! Never mind I'm hard enough to handle this (who am I kidding, it's bloody freezing!) after a torturous 2 1/2hr dive I made it. Dave had just as bad a time getting down from bolton but we had made it.
I said to myself last time I dived here when it was 13 degrees, that was cold enough to dive in a semi, no more till I get my drysuit and 3 weeks later I'm back again this time 11 degrees. The plan for this dive, as I'm now qualified to 30m was to see the informas "box" . As I'd dived a few times with Dave (who is a lot more qualified than me) he looked after me very carefully, a gently swim past the bus stop then down the road taking a right qt 14m to meet the rope that leads to the box, then a real slow descent down the rope with continuous eye contact and ok's. We made it as long as I stay standing on the box 30.5m What did I think, what was all the fuss about a concrete box that was not exactly the most aesthically pleasing but I'd done it, so up we go back to 21m the have a quick swim to the wessex and back to 5m to deco and a swim round. Even going down to 30m I still managed 35mins on a 15Ltr which ain't bad for this gas guzzler. My finger tips were now starting to loose the feeling, so time to get out and get a cup of tea.

Dive 2 - We decided that Navigation was the order of the day for this one and as it was quite refreshing on the surface we just had a quick 40min surface interval and then back in. I'd got some bearings from Dave to navigate the wessex, Stanegarth, bus, blockhouse and then back. The old navigation lessons seem to have worked, I made all the way round no issues. At the Blockhouse my no deco time was starting to dwindle so we had a sprint back to the Stanegarth and back past the Wessex up to 5m to do some crayfish hunting and try and take some pretty pictures (that was a bit unsuccessful) and finally to do some more SMB training before the cold called the dive.

Thanks Dave for yet more excellent tuition and I'm so looking forward to diving in a toasty warm dry suit (Hopefully here 13th Dec, or so they say)
