Another Midweek Dip Round Stoney Cove

Well this time Lee C and I finally managed to buddy up after colds, tropical storms we teamed up for a Tuesday morning dip at Stoney. As per normal I got there before the gates we opened 08:00 to find I was only the second car in the queue (was it closed today) but 08:30 the gates open as normal.

Was a really quiet morning which made a pleasent change, the sun was shining and it was very nice and relaxing. Lee arrived and went through the ceremonial chin wag of what we had done and what we wanted to do, kitted up and down to the waters edge.

We decided on a fairly simple run past the cockpit, done the road to about 17m and then along the bottom to the land Rover and to the wessex, back up to the 6m shelf with a few practive deco stops at 12m, 9m and 6m (I say stops they a bit more like see-saw rides, up & down, up & down, but I'm getting better). We headed under the Pub to a hidden shelf that I didn't know of that the Cray fish like to hide in. We found a few reasonable sized ones but photographing them was a different matter, Lee waving the torch around and me waving the camera round proved "Interesting" photography. Finally crashed out through the little hole in the wall and headed for the steps. A nice little dive round even if I had to do 50+ mask clears, think this ones going in the bin!!

Dive 2 - This time it was down to the Stanegarth, we thought a little swim through and round and back up to the nautilus, easier said than done, with a mask that still didn't want to stay dry I spent more time blowing air out through my mask than my reg! but I wasn't going to be beaten. Mind you watching lee trying to backup inside Stanegarth as his side slung tank was a little wider than he planned was amusing it wsa like an articulated lorry trying to back down a cycle path, but a few tweaks and shifts and we were through without damage. A little time investigating the lack of cover to the wessex then slowly up to the nautilous, someone had left a hessian sack under it and the crayfish found it a great hiding place, well until 2 gorillas decided to shake it about a bit.

Overall a very pleasent and relaxing hour & half underwater even if it was marred a little by a leaking mask!!

Thanks Lee, Hopefully do some sea diving next time!!
